Are ranks related to access rights? (by Ni)
No.

The ranks are only used when users are signing up for events.

If you specify different values for the ranks - the one with the highest rank will have priority over lower value ranks.

At the moment there is no way to prevent a ranking member to signup 1 min. before gotime and take over a spot from a lower ranked member. This is a "problem" and there will be means to aid this later. To circumvent this - just set same value for all ranks :)
How do I give other guild members more access (by Ni)
You simply navigate to:

guild / admin / accounts

Find the user on the list - then press "access" on the action menu.

The rest should be self-explanatory - but let me know if something is not ;)
How do the guilds on the frontpage get hilighted? (by Ni)
Several factors have an influence on these calculations. To mention a few there are:

- Age of the guild (Guildage, yes - haha ;) New guilds get an advantage for a period of time)
- Number of views on their custom frontpage
- Number of posts in their forum (public and private score equally)
- Number of active events (public and private do not score equally)
- Number of signed players to events
- Number of new characters (mains score higher than alts.)

And as the feature list increase - so will the factors here. Some of the obvious to count would also be:

- Number of recipies in guild (quality counts)
- Number of recent news
- Number of recent polls
- Number of times recent events have been viewed
- etc.
How many users does GEMS have? (by Ni)
I have nothing to hide, but I also want to complete a more detailed statistics page before making links from the frontpage.

Until then you can check demographic user count here:

User statistics by country (and totals)

More statistics will come when priority features are completed.
I forgot my login - how can I regain it? (by Ni)
Just navigate to the lost password page and enter 1 of 3 credentials, and you will have your details sent to your registered e-mail address.

And yes, this only works, if you still use/have the previously registered e-mail address.

If you don't have it, you could try to ask for help on the general support forum. However, no guarantees can be made for the recovery of your account. But try - that doesn't cost anything ;)
What forum are you using? (by Ni)
Many people ask why the forum is lacking many of the normal features which big forum systems already have.

The forum you see in GEMS is 100% made from scratch. That is the main reason why it's not that "complete" yet.

I choose to take the long way implementing my very own forum to make sure integration with the rest of the system would be as flexible as possible.

This has its cost in terms of hours spent on development - but the reward in integration is out of this world. It would have taken a lot of effort to integrate phpBB or similar. This way I also free myself from inheriting their bugs and security issues - making fixes and new features that much easier to implement.
Will GEMS stay free? (by Ni)
This question has been asked a lot, so I might as well make the answer public once and for all :)

The main system will stay free for as long as the income from ads can cover my basic cost for hosting and domains. So far this is not a problem - so if you all do not block my very subtle ads, it will even out just fine I'm sure.

At some point we may consider some sort of subscription to enable more demanding features like image and video hosting.

Maybe this won't even be an issue if ads can also cover this cost. From the trend I see at the moment - this is unfortunately not realistic.
